SCIndeks is the Serbian national citation index, developed to serve as an add-on to the international (Thompson-ISI) citation indexes. It is indexing locally published journals classified as periodicals of scientific character. All of the journals listed are indexed on cover-to-cover basis. In addition to
basic article descriptions, SCIndeks contains abstracts and references/citations (metadata) for all articles. Articles from
the journals of a certain level of quality which accepted Open Access as a
publishing model, are available as full texts.
Metadata in SCIndeks are given in OAI PMH, Dublin Core to make them accessible
to international services operating under this standard. This is to enhance international visibility of
SCIndeks articles and to ensure inclusion of listed journals into the international system of scientific information exchange.
Journals listed in SCIndeks are submitted to permanent evaluation in terms of their impact, both within the database itself, and in the WoS/Thompson-ISI citation indexes. The subject of monitoring are also
various measures
of journals bibliometric quality. For the most part, these are derived from the
Thompson-ISI criteria for journals admission. The best
quality SCIndeks journals, selected by special criteria and additionally monitored, are recommended to the
top international citation database publishers for inclusion, and to the Ministry of Science and Technological Development of Serbia for additional support.
Prior to publishing, all SCIndeks references are completely parsed, so as to ensure their formatting according to different publishing standards, their linking with primary documents when available in electronic form, as well as their normalization.
Normalization of references is necessary, since they are used as a basis for evaluation of various research entities: individuals, institutions,
projects, journals, academic publishers, and conferences.
