Acute sport injury: Basic principles of treatment

AbstractAcute sport injury is specific by its bio-mechanism, medical treatment, rehabilitation as well as consequences. Adequate treatment of sport injuries consists of prevention, accurate estimation of the injured person and selection of the optimal treatment. The treatment of an injured athlete begins on the sport field with the first examination using the ABCDE Protocol, recommended for handling emergency situations. The second examination is usually done out of the field, and the final decision can either be urgent transportation to the nearest medical institution or observation of the athlete until he is able to return to the field, or it can be athlete's immediate return to the game after the ABCDE Protocol.
